The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion

By Fannie Flagg
I was introduced to a new book club that meets once a month. It's one of those book clubs where you all read the same book. And this was it. I must admit, I was not thrilled by the prospect. I was worried it was chick-lit. But it's not. Well, maybe just a little. I really enjoyed the story and although the too-ing and fro-ing that happened between decades in Fried Green Tomatoes was evident here I actually really enjoyed it.  We meet tomorrow and I'll have to let you know how the book club went. Wish me luck.

Synopsis

WISCONSIN, 1941  - With All the men off to war, Fritzi and her sisters must learn men's work and The All-Girl Filling Station was born, complete with neat little caps, short skirts, and roller-skates. Their peace doesn't last long though: skilled women are needed to fly planes for the war effort...
ALABAMA, 2005 - Mrs Sookie Earle has just married off the last of her daughters and is looking forward to putting her feet up. But then one day a package arrives. It contents knock Sookie sideways, propelling her back to the 1940's, and four irrepressible sisters whose wartime adventures force them to reimagine who they are, and what they are capable of.
