By Nelson DeMille
As I was asked to help out at a garage sale for a charity I’m involved with I thought I’d take the opportunity to “sort out” the boxes of books. I hope by now you realize the reason I used inverted commas there was to emphasis that sorting out the boxes of books happened to be a by-product of my real motivation which was to have first dibs at all the books. That’s where I picked up this latest read. I’d heard of Nelson De Mille as I’d watched and enjoyed The General’s Daughter starring John Travolta. I’d been really enjoying this read, I’d practically reached the middle of the book when all of sudden, you know? Life got in the way, my brain moved on and I have a sense that The Lion’s Game will sit on my bookshelf beside New York and A Tale of Two Cities, trapped in that purgatory between read and unread.
I do want to encourage others to read it. It’s a great read and I’d love to know the ending if one of you would like to share.
Synopsis
From a special observation post in New York’s JFK Airport, members of the elite Anti-Terrorist Task Force wait for an alleged Libyan terrorist known as ‘The Lion’, who is defecting to the West. Amongst those marking time are agents John Corey and Kate Mayfield, John’s senior in rank and junior in age – a bad combination considering his brash style and obsession with doing everything his way.It soon becomes apparent that something is horribly, eerily wrong, and that the affair of Flight 175 is only a prelude to what is to follow. As a bloody trail of terror streaks across the country, John and Kate learn that their quarry is more than a man; he has the instincts of a wild animal, the blood lust of a carnivore and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey…
